The “Pause & Pray” Rule

Hey, Reader!

Have you ever had one of those days when everything is lined up perfectly—you’re focused, prayerful, productive—and then boom… something comes along and snatches your peace like a dog stealing shoes? (Okay, that might just be us with the dog-shoe situation… we certainly have that problem. 🐾)

Moving on. Let me tell you what happened this week.

I was mid-email—laser-focused, determined to stay on the priorities I had prayed over and pre-planned—when my phone rang. It was a family member I dearly love but whose calls are… unpredictable. Some days bring calm encouragement. Others? Chaos, anger, and words that pierce deeper than I’d like to admit.

Without thinking, I answered.

And instantly regretted it.

The conversation spiraled into bitterness and accusation. My shoulders tensed, my peace evaporated (that email was forgotten), and all I could whisper was, Lord, give me the words

But the words didn’t come. The Spirit was quiet. The fear of saying the wrong thing grew louder. Before I knew it, there was a pull to recruit me into the drama—a fight I did not have the energy to enter with the other pressing obligations in my own season. I felt selfish, helpless, unmotivated, and confused.

When the call finally ended (twice—because yes, I answered again… glutton for punishment 🙃), I sat there completely drained. My once-peaceful mind was now clouded with anxiety, frustration, and guilt.

And just like that, the priorities I had pre-decided to focus on didn’t matter anymore. I didn’t just lose my peace—I lost my productivity and the plans I’d prepared.

All because I answered (uh, twice). 🤦‍♀️

Sometimes the biggest peace stealers don’t come as tense phone calls—they show up as constant notifications, unending to-do lists, spiritual guilt, the inability to say “no,” or comparison. And when I say comparison, it can be in person or online when we slip into that ever-familiar doom-scrolling mode.

All of the above (and then some) chip away at our joy.

Whatever form it takes, peace stealers rob us of the peace and joy God designed us to live in.

But here’s the good news: peace isn’t something we have to chase—it’s something God already promised. It’s available when we fix our eyes back on Him, speak His truth, and remember who we are in Him.

“You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in You.” — Isaiah 26:3

Peace is a posture. It’s choosing to let God guard your heart instead of the world’s chaos.

With each new day we’re blessed with, let’s make a pact: to protect our peace like the precious gift it is—because peace produces clarity, and clarity leads to purposeful productivity.

Let’s be women who protect our peace and let God handle the noise.

P.S. If you’re wondering about my loved one, please keep this family member in prayer. We haven’t spoken since, but I believe God has an amazing plan for their life—so good the enemy would love to derail it. But we know how the story ends: the battle is already won. ✝️💪

✨ Scripture of the Week

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” — John 14:27

💡 Tip of the Week: The “Pause & Pray” Rule

Before responding to any message, text, or call that feels emotionally charged—pause and pray. Ask, Will this conversation cultivate peace or chaos?”

Your productivity will always follow your peace.

🙏 Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,
Thank You for being the source of true peace. When the world feels loud and people pull at my patience, remind me that Your peace isn’t fragile—it’s a fortress. Help me recognize the moments when I’m tempted to forfeit that peace, and give me strength to pause, pray, and protect it. Guard my heart, guide my words, and lead my loved one into Your healing. May today’s calm become tomorrow’s clarity as I walk in Your purpose.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
