The Way You Speak to Yourself Matters
Hey, Reader!
Have you ever caught yourself saying something about yourself that you would never say to someone you love?
“I’m so stupid.”
“Why can’t I just get it right?”
“Wow, that was dumb.”
Sometimes we even laugh after saying it — like it softens the blow. But friend, our hearts don’t know the difference between a “joke” and a wound.
This week, God gently reminded me to pay attention to my self-talk — those quick, offhand comments I whisper under my breath when I mess up, forget something, or feel behind.
And I realized something: When I speak negatively about myself, I’m agreeing with words that don’t come from God.
Then I wonder why my mood shifts… why I feel drained… why my joy disappears. Meanwhile, I’ve been speaking discouragement over my own spirit.
The truth is, we can’t consistently speak death over ourselves and expect to feel life in our hearts.
Our words matter — especially the ones we say to ourselves.
God never calls you stupid.
God never labels you a failure.
God never rolls His eyes at your mistakes.
Instead, He calls you:
Chosen.
Loved.
Forgiven.
Redeemed.
Capable through Him.
And when we choose to align our self-talk with His truth, something shifts.
Our mood softens.
Our spirit steadies.
Our confidence returns — not in ourselves, but in who we are in Christ.
So the next time you’re tempted to say, “I’m such a mess,” try this instead:
“I’m still learning, and God is still working in me.”
Because how we speak to ourselves shapes how we see ourselves. And how we see ourselves affects how boldly we walk in what God has called us to do.
Let’s be women who speak life — not just to others, but to our own hearts too.
📖 Scripture of the Week
Proverbs 18:21
“The tongue has the power of life and death…”
Even the words we whisper to ourselves carry power. Let’s choose life.
🕊 Tip of the Week: Thought-to-Truth Swap
When you catch negative self-talk, pause and ask:
“Would God say this about me?”
If the answer is no, replace it with truth from Scripture. Example:
“I’m so behind” → “God is ordering my steps.” Psalm 37:23(Psalm 37:23) (Proverbs 16:9) (Proverbs 16:9)
“I’m not good enough” → “I can do all things through Christ.” (Philippians 4:13)s
waps. Big spiritual impact.

🙏 Let's Pray
Heavenly Father,
Forgive us for the moments we’ve spoken harshly over ourselves. Help us become more aware of the words we say — especially in frustration or disappointment. Teach us to see ourselves through Your eyes and to speak truth instead of criticism. Renew our minds, guard our hearts, and align our self-talk with Your Word. May our words bring life to our spirits and reflect the love You have for us.
In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.
