What's Your Vision for Your Goals and Mission

An Encouraging Anchor for Your Week

What Does Living Out Your Mission Statement Actually Look Like?

Intentional Planning Part 6

Hey Reader,

Trust you've been killing it this week with your roles, goals, and personal mission statement! 😎 (And if you haven't, there's no judgment here, you can always revisit the latest I sent out to help you get your groove back).

The first time I wrote my personal mission statement, I was so motivated, inspired, and ready to take on the world.

But then life got, y'know...lifey...

I spent time purposefully planning my week on a Sunday, and by Tuesday, I had completely lost my sense of self. 🫣

And when I say, complete, I mean, if you were to ask me, "Did you read your mission statement this morning?" I would have most likely asked you, "What's a mission statement?" πŸ™„

Let me give you the full (SMH) picture:

My personal self-care commitments suddenly became a low priority, my family was fed, but all our conversations were transactional, my inbox and meeting calendar were literally dictating my life, and my energy was so zapped that I completely forgot the purpose of Psalm 23 and spending time with my Savior.

Hot. Mess.

Why?

Because, while creating the mission statement was exciting in the moment, I never established an actual vision for why and how I intended to live it out.

Of course, to everyone around me, I look SO put together with my well-organized planner and to-do list, yet I genuinely felt that I was living each day without a sense of purpose.

Here's the thing...

A mission statement isn't meant to live on a piece of paper.

It's meant to be lived and realized. Which brings us to an important question I'm asking you to reflect on:

What would it look like if you actually lived out your mission statement? If you actually used it as a compass to establish your long-term goals and daily planning?

What might your life look like next year, or the next 5 years, if you committed to truly living by it?

Reader, this is where we decide that the mission statement is not just an activity like writing out your goals, creating a list, or crafting a fancy vision board...

It's where we decide that it's a lifelong journey with the vision God is calling you to live through the roles He's entrusted to you.

If your mission is to glorify God, encourage others, steward your family well, and use your gifts to serve Him, what would that actually look like?

Your home, work, relationships, spiritual life, daily decisions, marriage...what does that look like for you?

Our mission statement reminds us of our values, who we are, and what we stand for. Our vision helps us bring those things to life by giving us a picture of where we're headed and why it matters.

The mission statement and the vision together?

That's where truly meaningful, Christ-centered goals are born, my friend.

Scripture of the Week

"Then the Lord said to me, 'Write my answer plainly on tablets, so that a runner can carry the correct message to others.'" ~ Habakkuk 2:2 (NLT)

Challenge of the Week

This week, spend some time imagining what your life would look like if you faithfully lived out the mission statement you've created.

Think about:

  • What would your relationship with Christ look like?
  • What would your marriage, family, and friendships look like?
  • How would you show up at work?
  • What habits would support that vision?
  • What would need to change in order to move closer to it?

Don't worry about goals just yet.

Simply create a picture of the life you believe God is calling you toward.

Write it down.

Pray over it.

And allow it to become the foundation for the goals we'll begin creating together in the coming weeks.

Let's Pray

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for giving my life purpose, direction, and meaning.

As I reflect on the mission You've placed on my heart, help me see the vision You're calling me toward.

Give me the courage to dream with You rather than simply chasing my own ambitions.

Help me see my family, my work, my relationships, and my daily responsibilities through Your eyes.

Show me what it looks like to faithfully live out the purpose You've entrusted to me.

When distractions come, keep me focused. When life gets busy, remind me of what matters most. And when I lose sight of the vision, gently guide me back to You.

May every goal I set and every plan I make be rooted in Your will and aligned with Your purpose. In Jesus' precious name, Amen.

In Love and Christ,

Dorene Elizabeth
