The Space Between the Plans
While we've been talking about creating goals that align with our compass, I wanted to take a moment to share a quote I read by Lysa TerKeurst that literally stopped me in mid-planning mode:
Underwhelm my constant moving... my loaded schedule... to be overwhelmed... by GOD.
I don't know about you, but I took a second (or maybe like 360 seconds) to really think about this and how it relates to my week and daily planning.
While I schedule my 'Jesus Time,' am I really seeking Him in the rest of my so-called obligations?
If He's my TRUE compass, how am I tapping into Him consistently throughout my day and allowing His Spirit to overwhelm my soul rather than allowing life to overwhelm me?
Am I stopping at 2 p.m. and asking Him to grant me His wisdom? Yeah, no. I'm actually not. Sadly, I have to admit that I'm that girl who's deep in the Psalms at 7 a.m. and says not-so-polite things about the person who cut me off in traffic by rush hour.
My point is, I'm in this journey with you and determined to keep growing in this area.
Now, don't get me wrong, planning matters. Proverbs 22:23 reminds us:
I'm sure you're thinking, So, how am I seriously supposed to underwhelm my schedule when you just shared a scripture about being prudent and not a simpleton...?
Yeah, I get that. Because that's been my planning style for as long as I can remember. Which is why Lysa's quote stopped me for more seconds than I had scheduled. 😄
It was a moment that I realized I'll miss those precious moments He presents... the God-Kisses of beauty and peace, the opportunities to bless another in the midst of my chaotic schedule, if I don't intentionally underwhelm my schedule and allow Him to overwhelm my soul and cultivate the fruit of the Spirit within me (Galatians 5:22-23)
So, let's go back to the "compass planning" mindset for a sec, and the past few weeks, where we've discussed allowing God to be the filter through which we make our plans.
Is it possible that the question isn't about how to better structure our plans?
Maybe the better question is: Am I planning in a way that leaves room for God to interrupt me?
Because while productivity can help us manage our time, only surrender allows God to shape our souls.
So this week, perhaps our challenge isn't to add another goal, another routine, or another perfectly curated system.
Maybe the invitation is simply this: Leave a little margin. Underwhelm your schedule. Pause long enough to ask, "Lord, what do You want to speak to my heart? What do You need me to adjust in order to make room for You? Be my Compass Lord; guide me, mold me."
And allow Him to overwhelm your soul.
🙏 Let’s Pray
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for being my true compass in every season. Teach me to plan wisely while holding my schedule with open hands. Help me create space for Your presence, Your wisdom, and Your gentle interruptions. Quiet the constant striving within me and remind me that my greatest fulfillment is found not in accomplishing more, but in being overwhelmed by You. Guide my heart Jesus; order my steps, and help me to recognize the precious moments, opportunities, and the gift of your presence that You surround me with each day.
In Your beautiful and Sovereign name, Amen. Thank You for always hearing my prayers.
In Love and Christ,
Dorene Elizabeth
